What is eczema? Symptoms and treatment methods
Eczema is a common inflammatory skin condition; knowing the appropriate treatment methods is of great importance in managing this condition. So, what is eczema? What are its symptoms and the treatment process?
WHAT IS ECZEMA?
Eczema is an inflammatory skin disease that causes itching along with scaly, red, crusted, and hardened vesicular lesions. Although it is more common in young children, it can affect any age group. While it is frequently seen on the hands, legs, and feet, it can also appear on any part of the body. Eczema causes these changes by weakening the skin's barrier, which is responsible for maintaining moisture and defending against external factors.

Although eczema creates an uncomfortable appearance, it is not a dangerous disease and can be controlled with simple treatments. The important thing here is to recognize the symptoms of eczema and consult a doctor without delay.

What are the symptoms of eczema?
Dryness, cracking, itching, skin rashes, dry patches, swelling, crusting, scaling, and blisters are among the symptoms of eczema.
In general, symptoms of eczema include:
Dryness and cracking of the skin
Swollen skin rashes that may change color depending on skin tone
Itching
Crusting and swelling on the skin
Occurrence of inflammation or skin infection
Darkening of the skin around the eyes
Skin creases on the palms
Intense sensitivity of the skin
Scratch marks on the skin

How is eczema treated?
Eczema is a chronic condition and there is no known definitive cure. Treatments applied to patients are generally aimed at preventing or reducing the severity of the symptoms caused by eczema in the individual. In types of eczema that occur in response to any stimulus, the basic principle of treatment is to prevent contact with the stimulus or to reduce the frequency of contact.
In the treatment of the disease, allergy-preventing medications, corticosteroid-containing drugs, and moisturizers are generally used in line with the physician's recommendations. Creams and gels can be used to prevent itching.
