Engin Polat’s grandmother was released due to her advanced age.

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?

According to Article 65 of the Law on the Execution of Penal and Security Measures:

"Children in the 0-6 age group whose mothers are convicts and who have no one else outside to care for them may remain with their mothers.

These children are housed during the day in nurseries and daycare centers within the penal institution or those belonging to the Social Services and Child Protection Agency or other institutions and organizations.

Children remaining with their mothers are provided with food and drink according to their age, condition, and needs.

Children who have completed the age of three may be placed in children's homes or orphanages by a court decision. These children are provided with contact with their mothers from time to time according to a determined program and procedure.”

WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

It is anticipated that the Polat couple's children will be given to Engin Polat's parents, Sezgin and Şükriye Polat. However, as a result of the examinations to be conducted, in the event of an arrest decision, the children could also be taken under state protection.
