WHO IS GEORGE ASLAN?

George Aslan is a Turkish politician of Syriac descent. He was born in the village of Arbo (Taşköy) in Nusaybin. Following the September 12 coup, he went to the Netherlands and lived there for many years. 

He was imprisoned for 26 months in Ankara Mamak Prison in Turkey. He served as the founder and editor of Shemsho magazine. He has been actively involved in the Syriac community; he has held memberships in various associations such as the Netherlands Tur-Abdin Federation, the Assyrian Mesopotamia Enschede Association (AMVE), and the Syrian-Orthodox Association in the Netherlands. 

He was elected as a Mardin deputy from the DEM Party in the 2023 Turkish general elections and serves on the Committee on Public Works, Reconstruction, Transportation, and Tourism.
