In the Netherlands, 29-year-old Zoraya ter Beek, who was physically healthy but had been struggling with mental health issues for a long time, has ended her life through euthanasia.
It was announced that the young woman, who stated she no longer wanted to live with depression and whose request for euthanasia sparked significant controversy, passed away at the Expertise Centre for Euthanasia on May 22, just a few days after her 29th birthday.
A friend stated that Beek had bid farewell to life in a "humane" way but did not provide details regarding the method of death.
Zoraya ter Beek had said that the depression treatment she had been receiving for years had not worked and that she wanted to die.
Beek's request for euthanasia, despite having no physical health problems, sparked global debate, with criticisms emerging that this right should not be granted to patients suffering from depression.

The Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize assisted suicide in 2001. Since then, euthanasia has become an increasingly popular option in the country.
