World-renowned musician Evgeny Grinko speaks to 12punto: 'I want to live in Turkey'

World-renowned pianist Evgeny Grinko has presented a new piano variation of the immortal work 'Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım' by Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu, who passed away in 1973. Grinko made sincere remarks about the single, which he presented to his fans today (May 17) along with its music video.

Stating that he listened to all variations of the piece to achieve the best version, Grinko explained that he enjoyed the music video shoot very much.

'WE SHOT A PART OF IT IN THE VILLAGE'

Explaining that the music video for 'Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım' was shot in both a village and the city, Grinko recounted those moments with a smile: "I really liked the video shoot; we shot part of it in the village and part of it in the city. I played the piano on top of a car, and people were honking their horns. They were asking if it would bounce on the hills."

IN THE PROCESS OF CREATING A NEW WORK

Stating that he listened to many variations of the timeless piece 'Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım' to achieve the best version, Grinko said, "I tried to convey its essence."

When we reminded him of a statement he made in December 2023, where he said, "I want to do better than my 'Valse' piece, to surpass it," Grinko gave the following response:

"'Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım' is not a piece that belongs to me. I only created the variation. I am currently still in the process of creating a new piece."

WILL HE SETTLE IN TURKEY?

Known for his love for Turkey, Grinko expressed that he almost lives in Turkey right now, but that he might settle here completely in the future with these words:

"After I turn 50, I want to live in a town around Bodrum or in a very quiet place further south."

Grinko, who has been enjoyed by music lovers with all the pieces he has produced so far, explained that there is a part of himself in his works with these sentences: "There is a part of me in every composition. In some pieces, I can be very melancholic, and in some places, I can reach very high levels. I can get very high-energy while playing the drums at concerts."

Finally, Grinko stated that his piece titled 'Valse' is the one that evokes the deepest feelings in him.
