In a statement, Yeliz Yeşilmen said, "I am Yeliz Yeşilmen. The person detained in the operation is Yeliz Yeşilçimen. Despite this, some newspapers and websites published news using my name, claiming 'Yeliz Yeşilmen caught in operation,' without even performing the most basic journalistic rule of name verification."
Stating that she lives in Bodrum and is currently on vacation in the USA with her children, Yeşilmen expressed that associating her name with a drug operation is unacceptable, adding, "This is not a situation that can be dismissed as a simple error of name similarity. These reports, which were created in a way that is contrary to the truth, have directly targeted me and my reputation."
Announcing that she will initiate legal proceedings, Yeşilmen said, "I will use my legal rights to the fullest extent against all individuals and organizations that produced and published these reports and failed to make the necessary corrections. The process from here on will be meticulously followed by my lawyers."
"I will not allow anyone to place my name alongside such a serious allegation without verifying its accuracy," said Yeşilmen. "The person detained is Yeliz Yeşilçimen. It is not Yeliz Yeşilmen. I have no connection to this operation."
Yeliz Yeşilmen's husband, businessman Ali Uğur Akbaş, stated that his wife is on vacation and will return to Turkey tomorrow, adding, "I condemn the fact that my wife is being associated with such an event in any way. The incident is entirely due to a similarity in surnames. In some media outlets, Yeliz Yeşilmen was written by mistake instead of Yeliz Yeşilçimen. We have initiated the necessary legal process regarding the matter."
