Yeşilçam actor İzzet Günay hospitalized

Famous Yeşilçam actor İzzet Günay, who was spending his vacation at a residential complex in the Gümüşlük neighborhood of Bodrum, was injured after falling while walking with friends this morning. He was taken to a private hospital by ambulance and is currently receiving treatment.

The complex's manager, İsmail Demirel, stated to Sözcü, "Mr. İzzet tripped over a stone and fell while walking with his friends early this morning. He suffered an injury to his ankle, but he is conscious and alert; he was taken to the hospital as a precaution," he said.

WHO IS İZZET GÜNAY?

Born in 1934 in Sarıyer, Istanbul, the veteran actor attended Deniz College and graduated from Haydarpaşa High School.

He began acting in theater while in high school and continued with the Yeşilay Youth Branch. In 1957, he joined the Dormen Theater through a newspaper advertisement and began his professional career with a role in "Kara Ağaçlar Altında" (Under the Elms). He entered cinema with the role of a chauffeur in the Zeki Müren-Belgin Doruk film "Kırık Plak" (Broken Record) and went on to appear in nearly 120 films.

Among the most important of these are: "Ağaçlar Ayakta Ölür" (Trees Die Standing), for which he won the Best Actor award at the 1964 Golden Orange Film Festival, "Anasının Kuzusu" (Mother's Lamb), "Fıstık Gibi Maşallah" (Beautiful as a Pistachio), "Vesikalı Yarim" (My Licensed Beloved), "Kezban", "Şoför Nebahat" (Chauffeur Nebahat), "Unutulmayanlar" (The Unforgettables), and "Aşka Sürgün" (Exile to Love).

İzzet Günay is also an antique dealer and a philatelist.
