Yusuf Kavaklı has passed away: Nur Viral breaks down in tears on live broadcast
Theologian Yusuf Kavaklı, who had been receiving treatment for health problems for a long time and had been fighting for his life in intensive care for a while, has passed away. The news of Kavaklı's death was announced by presenter Nur Viral, with whom he co-hosted a program.
Presenter Nur Viral announced that Yusuf Kavaklı had passed away, breaking down in tears during the live broadcast. Stating that it was a very difficult broadcast for her, Viral said in a post on social media: "I started the day with very painful news. Our esteemed teacher Yusuf Kavaklı has passed away. My condolences to us all. May God give strength to his precious wife and loved ones."
Yusuf Kavaklı, who frequently made headlines on social media with his answers on television programs, had been battling cancer for some time.
WHO IS YUSUF KAVAKLI?
Yusuf Kavaklı was born in Sivas in 1946.
Kavaklı, who attended primary school in the village where he was born, graduated from Istanbul Imam Hatip High School in 1970 and from the Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute in 1974.
He began his career on August 24, 1966, as an Imam-Hatip at the Bayrampaşa Kartaltepe Çift Şerefeli Mosque. In 1982, he was sent to Belgium by the Presidency of Religious Affairs as a religious instructor.
Returning to Turkey in 1987, Kavaklı worked as a central preacher in Silivri for a while before being appointed as the founding mufti of Küçükçekmece, a position he held for 14 years.
In 2004, he was appointed as the Deputy Mufti of Istanbul and retired in 2011. He participated in various television programs to answer religious questions.
