26 arrested in operation against '10 Brothers' gang in Küçükçekmece

An operation was carried out by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the '10 Brothers,' a new-generation criminal organization operating out of Küçükçekmece and led by Mekin Büyükdeniz. Within the scope of the investigation into crimes including "establishing and being a member of an organization for the purpose of committing crimes," "qualified intentional homicide," "possession and use of unlicensed firearms," "intentional qualified injury with a weapon," "property damage," and "qualified robbery," technical surveillance revealed that the criminal organization engaged in the trafficking of all types of weapons and narcotics, carried out armed attacks, profited from extortion activities, maintained its presence in the criminal underworld under the control of organization leaders who had fled abroad despite previous operations, and continued its activities through organization members who frequently entered and exited prison as well as underage members who had not yet been identified. On February 13, simultaneous raids were conducted on 61 addresses across 7 provinces, centered in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district. During the operation, 42 members of the organization were apprehended and taken into custody. The suspects were referred to the courthouse following their processing at the police station. After their statements at the prosecutor's office, 32 suspects were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for their arrest, while 10 suspects were referred with a request for release under judicial control. Of the 32 suspects for whom arrest was requested, 26 were arrested, while judicial control measures were imposed on 6 individuals. The proceedings for the other 10 suspects are ongoing.
