8 million 692 thousand TL fine for foul odor
Following inspections initiated due to increasing complaints about foul odors in the Sağlık and Yeşiltepe neighborhoods of Tekirdağ's Ergene district, a total of 8 million 692 thousand TL in administrative fines was imposed on 7 businesses.
Teams from the Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change have been conducting intensive inspections in the region, working around the clock, especially over the last 2-3 months.
During the checks, 7 businesses were identified as discharging their wastewater into the Çorlu Stream and Sinandede Creek, coming from the direction of Velimeşe, without treating it in accordance with regulations. A total of 8 million 692 thousand TL in fines was imposed on these businesses.
On the other hand, samples were taken and sent to the laboratory to determine the odor emissions from the pools at the Organized Industrial Zone Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Additionally, passive sampling tubes, which will remain in place for 2 months to monitor hydrogen sulfide gas that may originate from the treatment plant, were placed at 10 locations, both near the treatment plant and in the vicinity of the neighborhoods.
Authorities stated that necessary actions will continue to be taken within the scope of Environmental Law No. 2872 once the measurement and analysis results are completed.
