Accident in tunnel on Northern Marmara Motorway

A traffic accident occurred around 12:30 PM in the T-5 Tunnel on the İzmit section of the Northern Marmara Motorway. A car with license plate 34 BJP 947, driven by K.D., and a pickup truck with license plate 34 MKM 829, driven by B.G., which were traveling in the direction of Istanbul, collided. The pickup truck, sent spinning by the impact, hit the tunnel wall and overturned.

As a result of the accident, the pickup truck driver B.G. and passengers in the car, a child named A.D. and G.D., were injured. Other drivers who witnessed the incident reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon notification, fire, medical, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals after receiving initial intervention from medical teams.

TRAFFIC RETURNED TO NORMAL

Due to the accident, three lanes of the motorway in the direction of Istanbul were closed to traffic. While gendarmerie teams provided controlled passage through a single lane, traffic congestion formed in the area. After the vehicles involved in the accident were removed, the flow of traffic returned to normal. The gendarmerie has launched an investigation into the accident.
