Alarm in Ankara! Water levels at critical stage

According to the latest data released by the Ankara Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ), the occupancy rate of dams in the capital has fallen to 26.19 percent, while the active usable water amount has decreased to 16.20 percent. This situation indicates that Ankara has entered a critical period in terms of its water resources.

Major water treatment plants in the capital, such as İvedik, Pursaklar, and Çubuk, provide the majority of the water supplied to the city. However, the fact that the amount of water coming from the dams varies throughout the year brings water conservation and the search for alternative sources to the agenda. Water levels are particularly low in large dams such as Çamlıdere, Kurtboğazı, and Kesikköprü.

Meteorology Expert Kenan Yüksel stated that a rainy weather system will be effective in Ankara and across Turkey in the coming days. Yüksel said, "As of today, we expect precipitation transitions in the inner and eastern regions, starting from the east of Marmara and the Inner Aegean. The precipitation will generally be in the form of rain and showers, but sleet and snow may be seen during the night hours."

Stating that the precipitation will continue in the northern and inner parts on Thursday, Yüksel added, 'On Friday, the weather will cool down, and we expect sleet and snow in the inner and eastern regions, excluding Marmara and the coastal areas.'

Regarding Ankara specifically, Yüksel said, 'No precipitation is expected on Thursday, but snowfall may be seen on Friday morning and afternoon. This situation could bring with it a snowfall that we have not seen during the winter months.' Over the weekend, precipitation is expected to continue intermittently in the inner and eastern parts.
