Avalanche hits Ayder Plateau road
The road, which was closed to traffic for 1 hour due to an avalanche on the Ayder Plateau road, was reopened following the intervention of highway crews.
Due to the snowfall affecting the higher elevations of Rize, the snow depth has reached nearly 1 meter in the world-famous tourism center of Ayder Plateau, located in the Çamlıhemşin district.
An avalanche occurred between Ayder Plateau and Çamlıhemşin around 22:30 due to the snow that covered the entire plateau in white. Because the mass of snow completely blocked the road, domestic tourists heading up to Ayder Plateau were unable to descend from the plateau.
Snow clearing work was initiated by highway crews, who were on standby for emergency intervention in case of any negative incidents on the closed road. The road, which was closed to traffic for approximately 1 hour, was reopened to traffic following the crews' efforts.
