Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Council approves water discount
In the 1st session of the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Council's May meeting, a motion submitted by Mayor Ahmet Akın was brought to the agenda in the 2nd session. The proposal to provide free agricultural irrigation in 2024 and implement a 15 percent discount on water tariffs was approved by a majority vote of the council members.
During the 2nd session of the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Council and the subsequent General Assembly of the Balıkesir Water and Sewerage Administration (BASKİ), the items eagerly awaited by citizens—free agricultural irrigation and a 15 percent discount on water tariffs—were put to a vote.
FREE AGRICULTURAL IRRIGATION UP TO 20 DECARES
In accordance with the items approved by a majority vote of the council members, agricultural irrigation services will be free for fields between 0-20 decares, while for fields between 20-40 decares, 50 percent of the cost will be covered by the Metropolitan Municipality and 50 percent by the subscriber.
TO TAKE EFFECT IN JUNE
The 15 percent discount to be applied to water prices, aimed at contributing to the household economy of Balıkesir residents who have been using the most expensive water in the Marmara Region, will cover residences, workplaces, and all other tariff groups. The discount will come into effect as of June 1.
