Boat capsizes: 1 police officer dead, 1 police officer missing
A search and rescue operation has been launched off the coast of Lala village in Sinop after a boat carrying two police officers capsized. One police officer lost his life in the accident, while search efforts for the other missing officer are ongoing.
In a statement regarding the incident, the Sinop Governor's Office said:
"On the evening of September 30, 2026, information was received that a boat carrying two of our citizens had capsized off the coast of Yalı village in the Sinop city center.
Upon the report, Coast Guard Command, Marine Police, and Gendarmerie Command teams were dispatched to the area; search and rescue operations were immediately initiated to locate and rescue our citizens.
Within the scope of the ongoing efforts, it was understood that the victims in the aforementioned report were two of our police officers serving at the Sinop Provincial Police Department.
One of the victims, our police officer O.G.Y., was brought to shore by the teams and transferred to Sinop Atatürk State Hospital. Despite all interventions at the hospital, our police officer could not be saved and lost his life.
Search and rescue operations to find the other missing police officer, N.Ş., are continuing uninterrupted under the coordination of the Coast Guard Command's air support, Marine Police, and Gendarmerie teams."
