Building wall collapses in Nişantaşı
A wall of a building collapsed in the Nişantaşı neighborhood of Istanbul. Local residents who heard the noise initially thought it was an earthquake, while municipal police teams took security measures in the surrounding area.
The incident occurred on Kuyumcu İrfan Street, located on Halaskargazi Avenue in the Nişantaşı neighborhood of Şişli.
According to the information obtained, a wall of a 6-story building collapsed for an as-yet-undetermined reason at around 17:00 on the 3rd floor, adjacent to a previously demolished building.
Debris from the collapsed wall fell into the vacant lot located next to the building.
Local residents who heard the noise notified the fire department and municipal teams. Municipal police teams arriving at the scene inspected the area around the building and filed a report regarding the incident.
It was learned that no one was in the apartment
It was learned that the apartment where the wall collapsed belongs to a 97-year-old woman and that there was no one inside at the time.
Ceylan Ceylan, who works at a business on the street where the incident took place, said, "Suddenly, as it was raining, there was a loud noise, and we thought the loud noise was an earthquake. The iron bars also damaged our room. It was a great scare; thank God nothing happened to anyone. Everyone lives in that building, but the person whose wall collapsed is a 97-year-old aunt, and she is currently at her summer house. Thank God she wasn't there. But everyone on the other floors came downstairs thinking 'there was an earthquake.' The responsible parties said, 'We will have this fixed,' but no one has been around for 3-4 months. Many people are victims," she said.
