Chairman Güngör speaks on the ongoing fire in Denizli

A forest fire broke out in a wooded area on Karcı Mountain, located on the border of the Merkezefendi and Babadağ districts of Denizli, at approximately 14:20 on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

The Regional Directorate of Forestry teams, which took action upon receiving the report, continue to intervene in the fire. AKP Denizli Provincial Chairman Yücel Güngör stated, in line with information he received from the General Directorate of Forestry, that the fire is being fought with 6 helicopters, 25 fire trucks, 8 pieces of heavy equipment, and a total of 715 personnel.

Stating that the teams are working to bring it under control as soon as possible, Chairman Güngör said, “As is known, due to the terrain being very steep and rocky and the lack of roads in the area, it has not been possible to intervene with fire trucks; the struggle has been carried out by ground teams using hand tools to create firebreaks in front of the fire. Although work was carried out throughout the day with aerial vehicles, the intervention of the aerial vehicles was not sufficient to extinguish the fire because it was not possible to reach the area with fire trucks from the ground to spray water. 

Currently, road construction work is continuing at two separate points with eight pieces of heavy equipment. If we can intervene in the fire with fire trucks by building roads, hopefully, it will be brought under control in a short time.

For now, the aerial vehicles have left the field due to sunset. They will start working again at sunrise tomorrow. As of now, the fire does not pose any threat to residential areas. Get well soon to all of us,” he stated.
