Chemical leak at workplace targeted in armed attack in Samsun
An armed attack was carried out on a recycling company in Samsun. Following the attack, a chemical leak occurred at the workplace, and 6 police officers who were slightly affected by the leak were discharged after receiving treatment at the hospital.
In an incident that occurred at a recycling facility located in the 19 Mayıs Industrial Site in the Tekkeköy district, it was alleged that U.G. opened fire with a weapon at the recycling facility belonging to O.K., which operates in a neighboring workplace.
As a result of the gunfire, 4 one-ton tanks filled with solvent and thinner located at the workplace were damaged, and due to the puncturing of the tanks, chemical substances leaked into the workplace, leading to the dispatch of numerous teams to the scene.
Police teams took precautions on all roads connecting to the 19 Mayıs Industrial Site and closed the entrances and exits to the industrial zone.
Upon notification, police teams arriving in the area took extensive security measures. While the rifle believed to have been used in the incident was seized, U.G., who left the area by vehicle after the incident, was apprehended by police teams in the Canik district. On the other hand, it was claimed that the incident occurred as a result of a dispute between the property owner and the tenant.
While the efforts of the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality fire department, AFAD, and medical teams dispatched to the scene to bring the chemical leak under control continue, 6 police officers who were slightly affected by the chemical leak were discharged after receiving treatment at the hospital to which they were taken.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
