Chemical substance panic in Maltepe
A chemical substance discarded in a trash container in Maltepe alarmed fire crews. While the street was closed to traffic with police tape, it was revealed that the substance thrown in the trash was bleach.
Citizens in the vicinity of Dik Street in the İdealtepe neighborhood of Maltepe, suspicious of the odor and smoke coming from a trash container in the evening, notified the fire department.
Upon arriving at the scene, fire crews first suspected that the smoke in the trash might be caused by a fire and sprayed water on it.
As the odor persisted, a hazardous materials response vehicle was dispatched to the area.
After an investigation by the teams, it was revealed that the substance thrown in the trash was bleach.
Following the intervention by the teams, the street was reopened to traffic.
