Cherry harvest begins in Demirci: Over 3 tons expected this year

In the Demirci district, cherry producers began working in their orchards from the early hours of the morning. The harvesting process is generally carried out by female workers, and the cherries are sorted by size and placed into crates.

The collected cherries are purchased by companies arriving in the district and are offered for sale both domestically and abroad. This situation allows the Demirci cherry to find a place in the international market as well.

Levent Erbak, who has been growing cherries in the region for 20 years, stated that he has 450 cherry trees on his 15-decare plot and said, "We are expecting a harvest of 3 tons or more this year. The prices are satisfying us."

Touching upon the difficulties of the cherry picking work, Emine Sönmez stated that the harvest, which begins in the early morning hours, continues until the afternoon when the weather warms up.
