Death toll rises to 12 in horrific accident in Mersin

The death toll has risen to 12 following the passing of 9-year-old Ensar Kaan, who had been critically injured in a traffic accident involving four vehicles, including a bus, in Mersin three days ago. It was learned that the child's father, Halil Şimşek, was among those who lost their lives on the first day of the accident.

The accident occurred on the evening of May 26 on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep (TAG) Highway.

The Mercedes-brand passenger bus with license plate 34 SD 8821, operated by Ali Güler and belonging to the Star Diyarbakır company, which was traveling from Diyarbakır to Istanbul, crashed through steel barriers and crossed into the opposite lane after the driver lost control of the steering wheel.

As the overturned bus collided with a car, a pickup truck, and a truck, 10 people lost their lives instantly, and 40 people were injured.

9-YEAR-OLD ENSAR KAAN ŞİMŞEK HAS PASSED AWAY

The death toll had risen to 11 yesterday after one of the injured passed away. 9-year-old Ensar Kaan Şimşek, who was undergoing treatment at Mersin City Hospital, also lost his life today.

It was learned that the funeral of Şimşek, who lost his life in the accident where the death toll rose to 12, will be held in Adana.

On the other hand, it was learned that the deceased Ensar Kaan's father, Halil Şimşek, was among those who lost their lives on the first day of the accident. All that remains of the father and son is a photograph they took together.

Bus driver Ali Güler (45), who was identified as the sole and primary faulty party in the expert report, has been arrested.
