Death toll rises to 3 in boat sinking off Gallipoli
The number of people who lost their lives after a boat capsized and sank off the coast of the Gallipoli district in Çanakkale has risen to 3.
The incident occurred around 17:30 off Bakla Burnu near the village of Güneyli in the Gallipoli district. Orhan Yavaş (43), Ayhan Yavaş (40), Salih Kocaman (53), and Mustafa Yaldızlı (46) set out from the village of Güneyli by boat to fish in the Gulf of Saros.
The boat capsized and sank off Bakla Burnu. Orhan Yavaş, who was on the boat, managed to swim to shore on his own. Yavaş reported the situation to 112 emergency teams. Upon the notification, gendarmerie, Coast Guard, and medical teams were dispatched to the area. During their search in the region, the teams found the lifeless bodies of Mustafa Yaldızlı and Ayhan Yavaş washed ashore. During the search for the missing Salih Kocaman, diving teams and 2 boats were deployed in the area.
Diving teams from the Coast Guard West Marmara Group Command reached the lifeless body of Salih Kocaman next to the boat, which was found at a depth of 10 meters.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
