Defendant who killed his partner: I checked her pulse, if it was beating I would have taken her to the hospital

The hearing held at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court was attended by the detained defendants Okay Gür, Ömer and Barış Doğrul, as well as the lawyers for both parties. In his opinion, the public prosecutor requested that the detained defendants be punished and that their detention continue.

In his defense during the hearing, Gür stated, "I lost control because of the severe provocation. I strangled her with a rope under severe provocation. I checked her pulse; if it had been beating, I would have taken her to the hospital. Then I picked her up and put her in the back of the vehicle. I laid my coat underneath her. It is a matter of honor. I was going to come back and explain it later. I dug and buried her. I came back and returned to my home. My guests asked, 'Where have you been? We came for you and you weren't here.' I said I had some work to do. I burned my clothes in the stove at home. Then I asked my son for clothes. He asked why, and I said they were dirty.

The distance was short, it was raining, and I put her in the vehicle without anyone seeing. When my wife showed me these things, I had a nervous breakdown. No one knew I was going to be released. On the day I was released, she had an abortion. She showed me this paper in the garage. In prison, I told them, 'If she doesn't want me, get out of my way, give me my children.' When I saw the messages, I confronted her. I wanted an explanation. She explained everything. She let it slip that she was pregnant and showed me these papers. I had a nervous breakdown. When I saw these, the walls closed in on me. She provoked me severely. She has been using a secret phone for 2 years. Because she had an abortion, her mother told her, 'Look, if Okay gets out, he will find these out, go change your name.' When I got out of prison, I learned that Seyhan Yakışıklı's name was actually Rojda.

I did not kill her, she killed me. Whatever it is, I am explaining these before justice. I am regretful. If she hadn't shown me these, I wouldn't have done this. I need to be with my children. The other detained defendants, Ömer and Barış Doğrul, denied the charges against them and requested a decision for their release. The victim's father and mother stated that they were complainants against the defendants and requested to join the case.

The lawyer for the Ministry of Family and Social Services also requested to join the case. The lawyers for the victim's family demanded that the defendants be punished and that their detention continue, while the defendants' lawyers requested the release of their clients.

The court panel decided to continue the detention of the defendants, accepted the request of the victim's parents and the lawyer for the Ministry of Family and Social Services to join the case, and adjourned the hearing to a later date.

Requested sentence

The indictment seeks life imprisonment with no possibility of parole for the detained defendants Okay Gür and his relatives Ömer and Barış Doğrul on charges of "intentional killing in complicity." Rojda Yakışıklı was killed by Okay Gür, with whom she was living, on December 27, 2025, in the Beybulak neighborhood of Diyarbakır's central Sur district.
