Department head who attempted suicide passes away in hospital
Abdulkadir Baytimur, Head of the Department of Science Affairs at Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, has passed away after 2 days of treatment in the hospital, where he was taken following an alleged suicide attempt with a firearm.
According to the information obtained, the incident took place in the Karşıyaka neighborhood of the Karaköprü district. Abdulkadir Baytimur, who served as the Head of the Department of Science Affairs at the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, allegedly attempted suicide with a firearm at his home.
Baytimur, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by ambulance after the initial intervention by medical teams dispatched to the scene.
Baytimur, who had been fighting for his life for 2 days at the Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital, could not be saved despite the doctors' interventions and lost his life.
Baytimur's body was taken to the morgue of the Şanlıurfa Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy procedures.
It was learned that Baytimur, who previously served as the Head of the Real Estate and Expropriation Department, was appointed as the Head of the Department of Science Affairs in 2024.
The investigation initiated regarding the incident is ongoing.
