Discovered 4 years later: 3 gauze pads left in his lower back during surgery
Tahsin Aydın, 65, who discovered 4 years later that gauze pads had been left in his body during a lumbar disc herniation surgery in Kütahya, has taken the matter to court.
Tahsin Aydın, who applied to a private hospital in Kütahya in 2019 with complaints of lower back pain, underwent surgery there.
Aydın, whose pain did not subside after the operation, underwent another surgery at a hospital in Ankara in November 2023.
3 GAUZE PADS LEFT IN HIS LOWER BACK
During this surgery, 3 sponges (tampons made of folded gauze) were removed from Aydın's body, which were understood to have been left over from the operation performed in 2019.

Tahsin Aydın's legal battle continues as he has filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office against the private hospital and the doctor in Kütahya.
Aydın stated that 6 platinum screws were inserted into his lower back during the 2019 surgery.
Stating that his pain continued after the surgery, Aydın said, "An infection had formed in the surgical area. The infection had completely surrounded the brain and spinal cord, and in 2021, my neck was cut 35 centimeters from the brainstem, and I had surgery there too, but my ailment still had not passed. Later, infection treatment was applied at a private hospital in Bursa. For 13 months, a nurse came to my house every day and administered antibiotics intravenously. Despite this, the infection did not go away."

Aydın stated that he finally applied to a private hospital in Ankara and noted the following:
"My doctor in Ankara said, 'We are not drying the swamp, we are just chasing the flies, so the platinum screws in your lower back need to be removed.' We decided to risk this surgery. While the platinum screws were being removed from my back via closed surgery, the doctor found pieces of gauze. Upon this, the surgery continued as an open procedure. During the surgery, 3 sponges were removed. It turned out that these were the gauze pads that had been forgotten during my first surgery in Kütahya and had caused the infection. Currently, the infection in my body has dried up, but my pain continues. My doctor in Ankara said I would recover within 1-2 years."
"THE HOSPITAL DOES NOT CARE MUCH ABOUT THE ISSUE"
Stating that infections also formed in his intestines and urinary tract due to the forgotten gauze pads, Aydın said, "I cannot stand for a long time; I can walk with crutches. The hospital does not care much about the issue, but the doctor asked to 'make amends' through acquaintances. I filed a lawsuit so that other people besides me do not experience the same problems; the process is ongoing. I care about the issue being heard by the public. There is a mistake here, and there must be a price for it."
