Elderly farmer's savings and belongings turn to ash after house fire

According to the information obtained, a fire broke out for an unknown reason in a single-story house belonging to the Aslan couple in Kaleköy, located in the central district. The flames grew rapidly. Those who saw the smoke rushed to help. Nurhan Aslan (70), who was inside the house, managed to escape the flames at the last moment. Mehmet Aslan (70), who had gone to fetch wood for the stove used to heat the house, returned to find his home reduced to ashes upon hearing about the fire. Neighbors managed to save the 12 cows in the barn. The flames were extinguished by fire crews before they could spread to the barn and the adjacent hayloft.

Watching the fire that destroyed the house he built with earnings from years of farming with helpless looks alongside his relatives, Mehmet Aslan, a married father of two, said, "My wife barely saved her life. Our belongings were completely burned. We had 300 thousand TL in savings. It was in a bag hanging behind the door. That burned too. There was some gold. I hope we can find it. I am left with only my jacket."

Thanking his neighbors for saving his animals, Aslan said, "May God be pleased with my neighbors. They saved my animals. I don't know what to do now. It would be good if aid is provided. Otherwise, I will have to stay in a tent."

A young man from the village offered ayran to the firefighters who came from the city center to extinguish the blaze to help them cope with the smoke. The gendarmerie has launched an investigation into the fire.
