Ex-husband causes terror, points gun at police: Shoots himself in front of his child

The incident occurred on 20th Street in the Ballıca neighborhood of the Dulkadiroğlu district. According to information obtained, Hakan Yılmaz (39) shot and seriously wounded his ex-wife, Fatma Görkem (37), with a handgun.

Görkem lost her life at the Yörük Selim State Hospital, where she had been taken. The suspect then went to an address on 24th Street in the Namık Kemal neighborhood, where he shot and killed his former mother-in-law, Gülistan Görkem (63), at the scene, and wounded Eda Nur Göksu (19), Fatma Görkem's daughter from a previous marriage, by shooting her in the chest.

The suspect, who fled after the incident, was located by police teams in the Muhtarlık Park in the Mimar Sinan neighborhood of the Onikişubat district, along with his 9-year-old son, E.T.Y.

The individual, who did not respond to the police teams' "surrender" call, held the handgun he was carrying to his own head and fired. Yılmaz, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance, could not be saved despite all interventions.

While his son, who was with him during the incident, was taken under protection, the handgun used in the attack was also secured by security teams.

HE FIRST POINTED THE GUN AT THE POLICE, THEN SHOT HIMSELF

In a statement made by the police regarding the incident, it was said: "On 22.10.2025 at 17:30, Hakan Yılmaz (39) shot his ex-wife Fatma Görkem (37) (who lost her life at Yörük Selim State Hospital) with a handgun on 20th Street in the Ballıca neighborhood of our province's Dulkadiroğlu district, then went to 24th Street in the Namık Kemal neighborhood and shot his former mother-in-law Gülistan Görkem (63) with a handgun, killing her at the scene, and also wounded Eda Nur Göksu (19), who is the daughter of Fatma Görkem from a previous marriage, in the chest with a handgun at the same address, before fleeing the scene.

As a result of the efforts carried out to apprehend the perpetrator, the individual was located in the Mimar Sinan neighborhood Muhtarlık Park with his son E.T.Y. (9) by his side, and a call to surrender was made.

The individual first pointed the handgun in his hand at our officers, then attempted suicide by shooting himself in the right temple. The individual was taken to the hospital by ambulance but lost his life.

His child has been safely taken under protection by the relevant unit.

The firearm used by the individual in the incident has been secured by the relevant unit. The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Provincial Police Department's Public Order Branch under the coordination of the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."
