Factory fire in Düzce extinguished

A fire broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason at around 8:30 PM at a factory producing styrofoam in Düzce. Factory workers, noticing the flames rising rapidly, reported the situation to the Düzce Municipality Fire Department.

Upon receiving the report, teams arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and intervened in the fire, which had turned the factory into a fireball. With the intervention of construction equipment, concrete pumps, and fire crews from district and town municipalities, the fire was extinguished after approximately 2.5 hours of work. Cooling efforts are ongoing in the area.

"Our teams were mobilized"

Düzce Governor Mehmet Makas, who arrived at the scene during the early hours of the fire, said, "As of 8:37 PM, a fire broke out at our styrofoam production factory in the Üçköprü area, located right on the border of Düzce Central and Kaynaşlı districts; according to their own statements, the cause originated from the electrical power plant."

And after 8:37 PM, we intervened in the fire with fire crews from our 7 districts and 2 towns, primarily led by our Düzce Municipality fire teams and Kaynaşlı Municipality fire teams. This factory operates on a 24-hour basis, with 3 shifts. The gratifying point is that the colleagues on shift left the factory without even a scratch. We have no loss of life. We are grateful for this.

We have no issues with the workplaces or businesses located in the adjacent buildings. Our heroic firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to those areas. We intervened in this fire with 13 fire crews, entirely from Düzce province, its districts, and towns, led by our Düzce Municipality. Our AFAD teams, gendarmerie teams, and health teams all put up a desperate struggle here.

We provided reinforcements with a total of 124 personnel. You have also been with us from the beginning of the fire until now. I thank you as well. Again, we thank our gendarmerie, our AFAD, and each of our fire crews, especially our municipalities.

Our honorable deputy did not leave us alone here, and our provincial directors are here. From this hour on, we are moving entirely to the cooling phase. Sufficient AFAD teams, fire crews, and gendarmerie teams will hopefully remain here, and we will have completely cooled it down. Get well soon to our Düzce and our people. The important thing is that no harm came to anyone. We will all see that the property can be replaced. May God be their helper," he said.

Stating that the D-100 highway was reopened to traffic following a limited closure, Governor Makas said, "Get well soon once again. As the Governor of Düzce, I thank all the colleagues who put in the effort on behalf of our state."
