Fire in 26-story building
Firefighting crews are continuing to respond to a fire that broke out in a 26-story building in the Çankaya district of Ankara. It was reported that many people were affected by the fire.
A fire broke out for reasons yet to be determined on the 4th floor of a 26-story building in a residential complex in the Alacaatlı neighborhood. The flames spread to other floors in a short time.
Upon notification, numerous fire, police, medical, UMKE, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area.
MANY PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE FIRE
Teams arriving at the scene evacuated some of the building's residents. It was reported that many people, including babies, children, and firefighters, were affected by the fire.
Those who received initial treatment at the scene by medical teams were transported by ambulance to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital and Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital.
Fire crews are working to reach residents on the upper floors of the building, where evacuation efforts are ongoing.
UMKE teams have set up an "emergency response tent" in the area to treat the injured.
Teams securing the perimeter are continuing their efforts to extinguish the fire.
'THERE WERE PEOPLE TRAPPED'
Speaking about the fire, a resident of the building described what happened as follows:
"I opened the window at 10:00 PM and heard screams for help. When I saw thick smoke coming from the building, we immediately notified the fire department. Those on the lower floors were evacuated, but those on the 10th floor and above were trapped. Fire crews rescued those who were trapped. Among those brought out were people who suffered from smoke inhalation. One person tried to jump. They were persuaded not to, and the fire department reached them in time."
