Foreclosure proceedings initiated at Buca Municipality for 150 million TL debt

In İzmir, foreclosure proceedings have been initiated against Buca Municipality due to a debt stated to have arisen from a contract regarding construction machinery, passenger vehicles, garbage trucks, and excavators leased from a company.

Following the non-payment of the 150 million TL debt, which is stated to remain from the 2024-2025 period, the creditor company initiated legal proceedings. The company's lawyer, Ümmü Gökçe Aydoğdu, arrived at the municipal building around 11:30 AM accompanied by police and teams from the 5th Enforcement Office.

It was learned that within the scope of the foreclosure proceedings, items located in the offices of the mayor, deputy mayors, and assistant mayors would be processed. It was reported that the operations at the municipal building are ongoing.

THE PROCESS AT THE MUNICIPALITY

Buca Municipality has also been on the agenda in recent months due to an ongoing investigation and a change in management. Within the scope of the "corruption" investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into Buca Municipality and its affiliated subsidiaries, detention warrants were issued for a large number of people.

Within the scope of the investigation, Buca Mayor Görkem Duman, former Buca Mayor Erhan Kılıç, municipal administrators, individuals serving in subsidiaries, as well as some company owners and contractors were involved in the process. The court decided to arrest 42 suspects, including Duman, Kılıç, and former CHP Buca District President Çağdaş Kaya; 12 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.

Following the arrest of Görkem Duman and his subsequent temporary suspension from duty by the Ministry of Interior, the Buca Municipal Council met in an extraordinary session on June 12 by the decision of the İzmir Governorship.

In the secret ballot, CHP group candidate Hüseyin Benzer and the People's Alliance candidate, AKP's Veli Balyemez, competed. As the required majority could not be reached in the first two rounds, the process moved to the third round. In this round, CHP council member Hüseyin Benzer, who received 25 votes, was elected as the Acting Mayor of Buca Municipality. Balyemez remained at 17 votes.

After the election, Benzer stated that they were "saddened" by the process, saying, "We will look after the trust left by Mayor Görkem like the apple of our eye by working very hard. We believe that justice will be served and that our mayor will return to his duty as soon as possible."
