Forest fire in Hatay exceeds 10 hours: 1,800 people evacuated
As the forest fire that broke out in the Karaali neighborhood of Hatay's Antakya district enters its 13th hour, the flames have reached the Oğlakören and Üçgedik neighborhoods. Due to the fire, 1,800 citizens have been evacuated.
The fire, which started for an as-yet undetermined reason in the rural area of Karaali neighborhood, grew rapidly due to the effect of the wind.
As the flames approached residential areas, numerous firefighting and Regional Directorate of Forestry teams were dispatched to the region.
With aerial intervention ceasing in the evening hours and ground efforts continuing, the fire had also engulfed the Oğlakören and Üçgedik neighborhoods. By the decision of the authorities, a total of 1,800 people living in the three neighborhoods were evacuated to safe areas.
While teams are working intensively in the region affected by the fire, hot weather and wind are making extinguishing efforts difficult. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
