Forest fire in Kocaeli has been burning for 8.5 hours
Efforts to bring the forest fire that broke out in the Karamürsel district of Kocaeli under control have been continuing uninterrupted for approximately 8.5 hours. Strong winds are making it difficult for teams to intervene in the flames from time to time.
A fire broke out in a forested area in the Akçat and Suludere locations of Kocaeli's Karamürsel district around 12:30 PM.
Upon notification, fire departments, the General Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, gendarmerie, police, health teams, and non-governmental organizations were dispatched to the region.
As the fire spread to residential areas, the village of Akçat was evacuated, and some houses sustained damage.
Extinguishing efforts, which involve 6 aircraft and 10 helicopters from the air, and 75 vehicles and 200 personnel on the ground, are being carried out with difficulty due to the strong winds effective in the region. Citizens are also supporting the teams with their own means.
