Fuel tanker engulfed in flames on Mersin-Adana Highway
Flames rose high into the sky after a fuel tanker caught fire for an unknown reason on the Mersin-Adana Highway; the blaze was brought under control following a lengthy intervention by firefighting crews.
A fuel-laden tanker caught fire for an unknown reason while traveling on the Free Zone connection road of the Mersin-Adana Highway. Ebubekir Güven, the driver of the tanker with license plate 26 VF 647, noticed the smoke, pulled the vehicle to a safe spot, and notified the emergency teams.
FLAMES REACHED THE SKY
Health, police, and fire crews were dispatched to the area in a short time. To prevent any potential danger, the police closed both lanes of the connection road to traffic and established a security perimeter. The thick smoke rising into the sky could be seen from meters away.
Firefighting crews intervened for a long time to extinguish the tanker, which had turned into a fireball, and brought the blaze under control. Subsequently, cooling efforts were completed, and the closed road was reopened to traffic.
While the investigation into the tanker fire continues, the moments of the incident were recorded by nearby citizens on their mobile phones.
