Municipal police officer commits suicide, AKP mayor injured: Terrifying moments at city hall

A municipal police officer committed suicide at the Darıca Municipality, and a bullet from his gun injured Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık. In a statement released by the municipality, it was reported that Mayor Bıyık's health condition is good.

According to the information obtained, Kerim D. (35), a municipal police officer who came to the municipal building to speak with Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık, held a gun he had with him to his head and fired.

The bullet from the gun also struck Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık in the arm.

Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The municipal police officer Kerim D., who was seriously injured, and Muzaffer Bıyık were taken to the hospital after receiving initial intervention.

The municipal police officer lost his life despite all interventions.

"HEALTH CONDITION IS GOOD"

In a written statement made by the Darıca Municipality, it was stated: "This evening, as a result of a suicide attempt by one of our staff members due to psychological problems, our Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık, who was at the scene, was injured by a stray bullet. Our Mayor was immediately taken to Darıca Farabi Training and Research Hospital, and as a result of the checks, it was determined that his health condition is good and he was only affected by a minor graze from the incident.

Our Mayor's general condition is good, and he is under observation as a precaution. A judicial process has been initiated regarding this sad incident, and the matter is being followed by the police and judicial authorities. Developments regarding the process will be shared with the public in a transparent manner as they occur."
