Half-century-old mosque demolished in controlled operation

The moment of demolition for the half-century-old mosque, which had continued to serve for worship through reinforcement efforts despite being damaged in the 2011 earthquakes, was captured on camera. During the demolition carried out with heavy machinery, thick dust covered the surrounding area. Teams continued their work under security measures.

Along with the Hazreti Ömer Mosque, which had served citizens for years, the businesses located in the lower section of the mosque were also included in the demolition scope. It was reported that the mosque will be rebuilt under the leadership of the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation, with the support of the Van Metropolitan Municipality and philanthropists.
