CONSTRUCTION OF THE TOMB CONTINUES
Construction of the Hazreti Ukkaşe Tomb is underway in the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, which was affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on February 6, 2023.
The tomb, which also houses the shrine of Hazreti Ukkaşe and is located at a dominant point in the Durmuşlar neighborhood, 19 kilometers from the district center, was destroyed in the earthquake.
Nurdağı Mayor Mehmet Yıldırır stated that the construction of the tomb is nearing completion.
Stating that the renovation of the tomb section was completed as a result of the work started immediately after the earthquake, Yıldırır said, "The Hazreti Ukkaşe Tomb, which was heavily damaged in the February 6 earthquakes, is being rebuilt by the philanthropic Nadir Yağ Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi within the scope of a project commissioned by the General Directorate of Foundations. We would like to express our gratitude to them here. As a result of the work started immediately after the earthquake, the tomb section of the renovation has been finished. The rough construction of the mosque has also been completed. Work is currently underway on the interior finishing. I hope it will be opened for service within a period of about 2 months."

ABOUT THE TOMB
Research has shown that the tomb was built in the name of Ukkaşe Bin Mihsan el-Esedi, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad, who is rumored to have lived in the region.
It is stated that Hazreti Ukkaşe, who is rumored to have come to the region to spread the Islamic religion during the period of Caliph Umar, was martyred here.
Hazreti Ukkaşe is sometimes referred to as Ökkaşe.
It is known that many people in the Gaziantep and Kahramanmaraş regions have named their children Ökkeş, inspired by him.
