He fell onto cushions placed just a second earlier from the second floor
In Küçükçekmece, a person attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of a two-story building. The individual, who jumped from the second floor, landed on pillows and cushions that citizens had placed on the concrete ground at the last moment. Those moments were captured on camera second by second.
The incident occurred around 22:30 on Bayrak Street in the Mehmet Akif neighborhood of İkitelli. According to reports, a man experiencing family problems climbed out of the window of his apartment and began shouting that he was going to jump. Unable to dissuade the man, local residents notified the police and then took precautions by bringing pillows and cushions from a nearby small mosque and placing them on the sidewalk.
Ignoring the warnings of the teams that arrived at the scene upon notification, the man threw himself from the second floor. The injured man received initial medical intervention at the scene before being transported to the hospital by ambulance. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Witnessing the event, Yusuf Akıncı said, “We were passing through the street with friends when we saw someone had climbed out of the window, and citizens on the street were shouting. We called the police first. We brought out cushions from the mosque here and took our precautions. While his head was inside the apartment, he was talking on the phone. We shouted and did everything we could. When he saw the police and fire department arrive, he stood up. He recited prayers for 10 minutes. After he jumped, nothing happened; he only hit his foot. Thanks to the cushions, he was not harmed. We know he was arguing with his family a few days ago.”
Another neighborhood resident, Seyid Ahmet Tekin, said, “A brother shouted from above, saying, ‘a man is jumping.’ We told the man, ‘don’t jump.’ He didn’t listen to us; he was busy with his phone at the time. When the police teams arrived, he climbed to the window and prayed. In the meantime, we brought out pillows and quilts in case he jumped. Then he just suddenly let himself go,” he said.
