He killed his mother at 16, his sentence has been announced: Mental health report examined

The incident occurred on November 24, 2023, on Yaka Street in the Umurça neighborhood. Figen Bezmez (47) went to the house where her son, D.D. (16), whom she had with her ex-husband, was living to visit him. It is alleged that an argument broke out between them after her son, who reportedly had psychological issues, arrived home a short while later.

D.D. locked the door and attacked his mother with a knife. Figen Bezmez, whose attempts to escape were unsuccessful, was wounded by knife blows to her throat and various parts of her body. A short while later, Bezmez managed to stand up with difficulty, opened the locked door, went outside, and called for help.

Upon the report of Bezmez's friend, who was in front of the house at the time, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Health teams determined that Bezmez had lost her life. D.D., who was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station, was arrested by the court.

The trial for the incident was held at the Bodrum 2nd High Criminal Court, and a verdict was reached at the 5th hearing. The report on D.D.'s mental health from the Manisa Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital stated, "It has been concluded medically that he is able to perceive the legal meaning and consequences of his act, that his ability to direct his behavior regarding this act is sufficiently developed, that he does not have a mental illness within the scope of Article 32 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), and that he has full criminal responsibility for the act."

D.D. expressed his regret at the final hearing. The court panel did not apply any sentence reduction to the murder suspect and sentenced him to 24 years in prison.
