He killed his wife over a property division dispute

The indictment prepared by the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed for Gökhan Eller (40), who strangled his wife Selda Eller (40), the mother of his 2 children, whom he was in the process of divorcing, in an incident that occurred in the Yunusemre district on September 23, 2024.

The indictment states that the suspect argued with Selda Eller over property division and subsequently committed the crime of “intentional killing of a spouse” by strangling Selda Eller with a vine. The indictment also requests that Gökhan Eller be tried with a demand for an “aggravated life sentence.”

In his statement included in the indictment, the suspect Gökhan Eller said that they had divorced in 2018, lived apart for about 9-10 months, that he had purchased the house where the incident took place during this period, and that they later reconciled and decided to remarry. He claimed that the victim, Selda, wanted the house to be registered in her name in the title deed before they married, and that he accepted this and they got married.

Claiming that he learned his wife Selda Eller was cheating on him during their marriage and that they had constant arguments because of this, Gökhan Eller stated that they decided to divorce again and agreed according to a protocol they made between them that 60 percent of the house would remain with him and 40 percent with Selda.

Noting that he was later called by the police after work and learned that his wife Selda had obtained a restraining order against him, Gökhan Eller claimed that his wife Selda called him and asked him to take his belongings from the house, that he went to the house upon this, that they started arguing, and that his wife told him she would cheat on him with his closest friends. Stating that he then strangled his wife, the suspect Gökhan Eller said that he called a friend on the phone and asked him to call an ambulance to the house, and then went to the police and turned himself in.
