India's boycott of Turkey negatively impacts wedding market

In India, the world's most populous country with 1.48 billion people, thousands of weddings are held abroad every year.

Turkey has begun to secure a share of the multi-million dollar Indian wedding organization market through promotional efforts in recent years. However, the Indian wedding market, which began choosing Turkey for its events due to promotions conducted over the last decade, has experienced a decline this year.

Tourism professional Hamit Kuk emphasized that many firms in India have started to boycott Turkey, stating, "The tourism sector has naturally begun to take its share of this. Specifically, 2-3 wedding organizations have been canceled recently. As you know, wedding organizations in the Indian market are very extravagant."

These are multi-million dollar wedding organizations. Turkey had also started to take a significant share of the Indian wedding market. There were wedding organizations ranging from approximately 70 million to 150 million dollars. There is some trouble this year; we will all see how things take shape in the coming period," he said.

Kuk added, "As far as we have learned from the firms so far, 2 wedding organizations have been canceled. It is not yet clear whether another wedding has been canceled or not. However, unfortunately, our firms are currently unable to secure new future wedding organizations. I hope this is a temporary situation and does not last long."
