Japanese beetle found to be the cause of pain and hearing loss
Ali Demir, a farmer living in the Alaşehir district of Manisa, went to the hospital due to pain and hearing loss in his ear. An examination revealed that the cause of his complaints was a Japanese beetle that had entered his ear.
41-year-old Ali Demir, who works as a farmer in Alaşehir, went to a private hospital in Salihli after experiencing increasing pain and hearing loss in his ear in recent days.
During the examination performed by Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. Mehmet Türkyılmaz, it was determined that there was a dead Japanese beetle in the patient's left ear.
While the beetle was removed with a successful operation by Op. Dr. Türkyılmaz, Ali Demir recounted the strange incident. Stating that he thought something had entered his ear while he was working in the vineyard, Demir said, "As the days passed, I began to feel hearing loss and pain in my ear. It turns out the reason for the discomfort in my ear was a Japanese beetle. The dead beetle was removed by Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. Mehmet Türkyılmaz."
Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. Mehmet Türkyılmaz stated that they frequently encounter cases such as insects entering the ear, especially in the summer months, and expressed that in similar situations, citizens should apply to a healthcare institution without wasting time instead of trying to intervene with their own means.
