Linden competes with gold: 2,500 TL per kilogram

Linden, one of the essential beverages of the winter months, is less available this year compared to last year. The scarcity of linden in the market has negatively impacted prices. While linden was 600 TL per kilogram last year, it is being sold for 2,500 TL this year. Herbalists stated that even though prices are high, citizens are showing interest in linden in 50-gram and 100-gram portions.

Noting that linden sales continue despite the high prices, herbalist Murat Amanvermez said, “Even though linden prices are high, it sells because the weather is cold. There is less linden on the market this year compared to last year. Because of this, linden prices are very high. Our people feel compelled to consume it to build resistance against the cold. Linden prices vary between 1,500 TL and 2,500 TL depending on the variety. Citizens mostly buy 50 grams or 100 grams. 50 grams yields 5 portions, and 100 grams yields 10 portions of linden. People complain about the prices, but they buy small amounts according to their budgets.”

“INTEREST IN OTHER WINTER TEAS HAS INCREASED”

Stating that citizens are also consuming other more affordable winter teas due to the price of linden, Amanvermez said, “Due to the high cost of linden, people are showing interest in other winter teas as well. Because other winter teas are cheaper than linden. For this reason, interest in marshmallow flower, French lavender, jasmine, sage, chamomile, and lemon balm has increased. Sage, which is sold for 30 TL per 100 grams, is the most consumed.”
On herbalist counters, sage finds buyers at 300 TL per kilogram, French lavender at 600 TL per kilogram, rosehip at 250 TL per kilogram, chamomile at 600 TL per kilogram, jasmine at 850 TL per kilogram, and marshmallow flower at 600 TL per kilogram.
