Man sets house on fire after learning of restraining order in Antalya
In Kepez, an elderly man who learned that a restraining order and an eviction notice had been issued against him locked himself in the house and started a fire.
In the Kepez district of Antalya, it was reported that an elderly man who learned that a restraining order and an eviction notice had been issued against him locked himself in the house and started a fire. The incident occurred at around 13:30 in a detached shanty house on 5932 Street in the Baraj neighborhood.
According to the information obtained, there had been problems for some time between the elderly man, named Ayhan, and his wife. During this process, the elderly woman's son took his mother to live with him. It was learned that there were frequent arguments between the woman, who stayed with her son living in the house next door, and her husband, who was reportedly not allowed into the house.
Today, the elderly man, who learned that his son and wife had obtained a restraining order and an eviction notice against him, did not open the door when he saw the police teams arriving at the address to serve the order. It was stated that the man, who locked himself inside the house, said he would set the house on fire.
Allegedly, the man opened the gas cylinder in the kitchen and set fire to bags and cardboard waste he had collected. While the interior was quickly filled with smoke, the door was not opened despite the warnings of the police teams. Upon this, the teams broke down the door and entered.
The elderly man was taken into custody by the police. Fire crews who arrived at the scene extinguished the fire that broke out in the kitchen section of the house before it could spread. Cooling efforts were carried out in the house following the fire.
It was reported that the elderly woman could not hold back her tears upon seeing her house burning, and her relatives tried to console her. The man taken into custody was taken to the police station to have his statement taken.
