Many people hospitalized after being poisoned during Tarawih prayer
Many people who were performing Tarawih prayer at the Yeşilyazı Mosque in the Akıncılar district of Sivas were poisoned by gas leaking from a natural gas heater and were taken to the hospital.
According to the information obtained, the incident occurred after the Tarawih prayer held at the Yeşilyazı Mosque in the district center. Those who went home after the prayer began to feel ill one by one and applied to the Akıncılar District Hospital.
As the number of those feeling ill increased, many people were directed to Suşehri State Hospital by ambulances.
It was learned that approximately 48 people were taken under treatment in hospitals. 18 people were transferred to hospitals in Sivas by ambulances.
It is believed that the incident was caused by gas leaking from a natural gas heater used in the mosque during the Tarawih prayer. It was stated that the approximately 48 people who applied to the hospitals are not in life-threatening condition. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
INVESTIGATION BY SIVAS GOVERNORSHIP INTO THE POISONING INCIDENT AT THE MOSQUE
A judicial and administrative investigation has been initiated by the Sivas Governorship regarding the 48 people who were poisoned by a natural gas heater used in the mosque during the Tarawih prayer in Sivas.
In a written statement made by the Sivas Governorship regarding the subject, it was stated, "In the report received by the 112 Emergency Call Center, it was reported that some of our citizens became ill during the Tarawih prayer at the Yeşilyazı Neighborhood Mosque in the Akıncılar district. Upon the report, our 112 Emergency Health, Police, and Fire Department teams were dispatched to the scene.
According to initial assessments, it has been determined that the poisoning cases occurred due to radiant heaters located in the mosque, which were determined to be operating on natural gas.
Some of our 48 citizens affected by the incident reached Suşehri State Hospital by ambulance, and some by their own means, and the examination and treatment of the citizens continue at Suşehri State Hospital.
5 patients affected by the incident were transferred to our Sivas Central Numune Hospital (hyperbaric unit) for advanced treatment. A judicial and administrative investigation has been initiated regarding the incident in question," the statement included.
