Meetings and demonstrations banned for 7 days in Tatvan

In a statement issued by the Governor's Office, it was stated: “A 7-day ban decision has been issued within the administrative boundaries of Tatvan district, effective from 00:00 on 03.06.2024 until 23:59 on 10.06.2024, as follows. 

Following the detention of Hakkari Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış on 03.06.2024 as part of an investigation conducted by the Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined through social media posts that 'the public and democratic mass organizations would be invited to vigil actions in front of all municipalities, and that protest actions would be organized by provincial organizations across Turkey.' 

In this context, as it is assessed that protest actions regarding the subject will take place in our province, it has been decided that, within the administrative boundaries of Tatvan, from 00:00 on 03/06/2024 until 23:59 on 10/06/2024, for a period of 7 days, protest marches, open-air meetings, and indoor meetings to be organized according to the provisions of the Law on Meetings and Demonstration Marches No. 2911, except for those deemed appropriate by the Governor's Office and District Governorships, are banned; and in accordance with the provisions of Article 11, paragraphs (a) and (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, activities such as press statements, sit-ins, conducting surveys, setting up/opening tents and stands, organizing signature campaigns, distributing leaflets, brochures, and flyers, and all kinds of protest actions are also banned between the specified dates, except for those deemed appropriate by the Governor's Office and District Governorships. Furthermore, in order to prevent participation in any kind of unlawful actions/events related to the aforementioned organizational calls and similar topics, by individuals or groups, either individually or collectively, from our districts or surrounding provinces, or by using our province as a route, it has been decided, in accordance with the provisions of Article 11, paragraph (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, that individuals/groups likely to participate in unlawful actions/events will not be permitted to enter our Tatvan district, nor will they be permitted to leave these areas individually or collectively during the aforementioned dates.”
