Migrant boat sinks off the coast of Marmaris
A boat carrying irregular migrants sank off the coast of Kızılada in the Marmaris district of Muğla. According to initial reports, 1 person lost their life and 15 people were rescued alive. Search operations are underway for 2 missing individuals.
The incident occurred around 20:50 in the evening off the coast of Kızılada in the Marmaris district. According to the information obtained, the boat carrying irregular migrants sank for reasons yet to be determined.
Upon notification, Coast Guard Command teams were dispatched to the region.
According to initial findings, 15 irregular migrants—including 9 Somalis, 4 Afghans, and 1 Iranian, some of whom were children—were rescued alive from the sea, while the lifeless body of 1 irregular migrant was recovered.
It was learned that the treatment of 2 children, who were brought to shore by Coast Guard teams and handed over to medical personnel, is ongoing.
It was stated that teams are continuing search and rescue operations in the area to find 2 irregular migrants believed to be missing.
