Ministry announces: Crew of ship listing in Mersin evacuated
It has been learned that 7 personnel were evacuated by a boat sent to the region after an empty dry cargo ship listed 15 degrees in the Mersin No. 2 anchorage area in the Eastern Mediterranean.
According to the information received, the 89-meter-long dry cargo ship named Esperanza B listed 15 degrees in the Eastern Mediterranean. Upon the captain reporting the situation, a boat belonging to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's General Directorate of Coastal Safety was dispatched to the area. According to initial information, the 7 personnel on board were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
It was reported that the incident occurred due to a technical failure on the ship. Meanwhile, an ambulance was assigned to the shore by the 112 Emergency Command Center as a precaution.
In a statement made by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, it was stated, "For the emergency evacuation of the personnel on the 89-meter-long dry cargo ship named Esperanza B, which listed 15 degrees in the Mersin No. 2 Anchorage Area, the boat named Bayrak 2 belonging to our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's General Directorate of Coastal Safety was immediately directed to the scene and the evacuation process of the personnel on the ship has begun."
