Following the heavy rainfall that hit Istanbul on October 14, the Ayazağa Creek in the Ayazağa district of Sarıyer overflowed. Search efforts are ongoing to find 30-year-old Turkmenistan national Murat Babacanov, who is believed to have gone missing in the flood that occurred after the overflow.
Babacanov's relatives and friends are following the search operations conducted in the area and waiting for news from the authorities. It was stated that there has been no word from the young man since 18:50 on the day the rainfall was effective.
LAST SIGNAL FROM AYAZAĞA SQUARE
Artur Seydullayev, a friend of Babacanov who is monitoring the search efforts, said that his friend had last spoken on the phone but could not be reached afterward. Seydullayev said, "He disappeared at 18:50 on the first day of the rain. We have been waiting for news since that day. He last spoke to our friend on the phone. It is unknown where he is."
Stating that Babacanov might have been swept away during the flood, Seydullayev reported that the last phone signal was received from Ayazağa Square. Noting that they think his friend might be in the area, Seydullayev said, "When the flood came, it destroyed everything and he was gone. No one saw it, and no one has any information. We haven't received confirmation that he is here, but the last signal was received from Ayazağa Square. We estimate that he came here," he said.
While search efforts continue in the region, the wait for Babacanov's relatives also continues.
