Mother of woman who went missing with her child: If you can hear me, daughter, come home

Search efforts are continuing without interruption to find 43-year-old Huriye Helvacı and her 5-year-old son, Osman Helvacı, who have not been heard from since they left their home in the Bozkurt district of Kastamonu on Sunday, November 2.

While search operations are ongoing in the area where the last phone signal was received, Huriye Helvacı’s mother, Ayşe Hıra, and her sister, Ayşe Çalık, spoke out. Ayşe Hıra stated that her daughter and son-in-law had a minor argument on the morning of November 2, after which her daughter left the house with her son without saying where she was going.

Appealing to her daughter, Ayşe Hıra said, "I want my daughter to come back as soon as possible. I have a son-in-law. I stay with him in the winter and go to my village in the summer. I saw my daughter off as she was leaving the door here. I asked my daughter, 'Where are you going?' but she didn't answer me. She took her bag and Osman and left.

In the morning, the child was taking water from here, and she said, 'Don't drink that water, I'm drinking that water.' My son-in-law yelled at her. I know this. If you can hear me, daughter, come home; I miss my grandchild so much. I don't have my Osman; I can't drink anything, I can't lie down, I can't sleep. Osman grew up in my arms; he has been with me since he was born. I have been with him for 5 years. If anyone sees or hears from my daughter, please let us know," she said.

"SHE DIDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING"

Missing Huriye Helvacı’s sister, Ayşe Çalık, said, "I live in Istanbul. I spoke with my sister on Sunday around 13:00. She left the house 10 minutes after me. On Monday at 16:00, he called me and said, 'Your sister is missing, I can't reach her.' I got on the bus on Monday evening and came here. The reason for our phone conversation was that my sister had collected mushrooms in Istanbul and brought them. I posted about it on social media. In the meantime, my sister saw the post and called; she chatted with me. She asked, 'Did you buy the mushrooms with money?' I said, 'Your sister collected them, she brought them in the evening, and we are going to cook and eat them.' Then we talked to my nephew Osman; he asked, 'Auntie, how are you? Auntie, are you coming to the village?' I didn't sense anything wrong. My sister didn't mention going anywhere, and she didn't answer my mother when she left the house. When she was leaving the door, my mother asked, 'Daughter, where are you going?' and said, 'Come back early in the evening, your husband won't be here, he'll be late. Where are you going?' She didn't answer my mother either. A neighbor saw her on the way out and called out, asking, 'Huriye, where are you going?' but she didn't answer her either," she said.

"I DON'T THINK MY SISTER RAN AWAY"

Stating that she has no information about her sister having any family problems with her husband, Ayşe Çalık said, "I don't think my sister ran away. I mean, a person who runs away takes the money in the house, right? The money is still at home; she didn't take any laundry or clothes. She only took her phone, a water bottle in her backpack, and her wallet. I don't think she has much money on her. Because she doesn't keep much money with her; if she finds money, she goes and spends it. There hasn't been an incident like this where she went missing before. Her daughter is 16, they have some arguments, but her daughter is a boarding student. These are simple things that happen in every home. Like, when she was asked to do a chore, she wouldn't do it, and this time she was scolded. As far as I know, we would run into them when we came to the village. As far as I know, her relationship with her husband was also good. I haven't witnessed any such situation," she said.

Stating that she learned there was a minor argument with her husband in the morning, Ayşe Çalık said, "Osman drank water from his mother's bottle. She said, 'Don't drink water from my bottle, drink from your own bottle.' Her husband yelled at her, saying, 'Why are you yelling at the child, let him drink.' I don't think she ran away. She went out for a walk that day too. She was going to return home, or she had already asked for directions. Why would someone who is running away return or ask for directions? May God be pleased with everyone who contributed; our state is with us. If anyone sees or hears anything, please let us know. Was she kidnapped? Is she being held somewhere? The person who picked her up in his vehicle on the day my sister went missing is my mother's cousin. He saw her on the road and picked her up; he said, 'I didn't recognize her, I never turned around to look.' He said he learned it was her afterward. There are also those who saw him dropping her off by car," she said.

Meanwhile, search efforts are continuing in Yaşarlı village, which is the village of Huriye Helvacı’s mother.
