Mother threw her baby in the trash

In the Mut district of Mersin, an investigation launched after a baby's body was found inside a bag in a trash container has led to the detention of the baby's mother and her family. It was revealed that the woman, who had rented a house and moved to the district 14 days prior under the lie that she had "started a job," gave birth in the bathroom and then placed the baby—who she claimed was stillborn—into a bag and threw it in the trash.

Mother threw her baby in the trash

The incident occurred yesterday on Meydan Street in the Meydan neighborhood of the district.

According to the information received, 50-year-old Cennet Sünbül, who collects waste materials, encountered the lifeless body of a baby wrapped in a cloth inside a bag she had hooked while rummaging through a trash container.

Upon being notified by Sünbül, health and police teams arrived at the scene. Following the examination by police teams and the prosecutor, the baby's lifeless body was placed in a funeral vehicle and taken to the morgue.

IDENTIFIED THROUGH CAMERA FOOTAGE

Teams from the Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch and the District Police Department conducted an investigation into the incident. During the teams' work, security camera footage from the city's management system at the location where the baby's body was discarded was examined. The investigation revealed that 21-year-old Y.Ç., who had rented a house and settled in the district 14 days ago with the lie that she had "started a job at an institution," had discarded the baby's lifeless body in a trash bag.

Following this, the police learned that Y.Ç., who had left the house after the incident, had gone to her father's home in the central Akdeniz district along with her mother, F.Ç., who had been staying with her. The police raided the house and detained the baby's mother, Y.Ç., her grandmother, F.Ç., and her grandfather, M.Ç. The three suspects were taken to the Mut district and referred to the courthouse after their statements at the police station.

While the investigation into the incident continues, it is alleged that the baby's mother, Y.Ç., became pregnant while she was in Tokat, told her own mother about the situation, and that they subsequently carried out such a plan. It was learned that the father, M.Ç., stated that he was unaware of the incident.
